Fontos, hogy tollazata tiszta és rendezett legyen, hiszen ez nyújt számára védelmet és hőszigetelést a szárazföldön, és kint a hideg tengeren. A kép a Waleshez tartozó Skomer-szigeten készült, abban az időszakban, amikor a sziget már nem zsibong a napközben odalátogató turistáktól. Of course, only we humans read emotion-filled gestures into this action, whereas, in fact the bird is carrying out one of its most important activities: arranging and cleaning its feathers from dust and dirt, removing parasites. It is important that its plumage be clean and orderly as it provides protection and insulation on dry land and out on the cold ocean. The photograph was taken on Skomer Island, part of Wales, when the island is no longer buzzing with day-tripper tourists. At such times the birds are much calmer and more brave and we can witness their most private movements, such as their unselfconscious preening at the end of the day.
